Hair loss is generally seen in male individuals; but it is also seen with a high rate in women.Hair loss or thinning and weakening of hair is a big problem for most people. Since hair plays a big role in the physical appearance of people, it is an important problem that makes people think that it decreases the beauty and impressiveness of the person and causes psychological problems, decreases the self-confidence of the person or reduces the self-confidence of the person.

A person has an average of 100,000 – 150,000 hairs on their head. Hair color and age are also important in the number of hairs. While the number of hair is less in red hair, it is more in blondes. While a baby has an average of 1100 hair follicles when he is born, this number drops to 600 when he becomes an adult. Hairs role in the body is beyond cosmetic concern. The main function of the hairs on the human head, which we call ‘hair’; maintaining the balance of heat and water, protecting the skull from external influences. Also, it has the sensations of pressure, temperature, touch and pain. The hair is very strong and durable. A strand of hair is 100 gr.

The life cycle of hair has three stages:

  • Development and maturity (anagen) period; It is the process in which the hair is constantly growing, healthy and durable. It takes 2-7 years.

Period of rinsing and bewilderment (catagen); It is the process of aging the hair strand quickly. It takes a few weeks.

  • Slimming and indulgence phase; is the period when the hair is shed. It takes a few months.

Some of the hair follicles may be in the anagen period, some in the catagen period and some in the telogen period. Normally, 5-10% of all hair follicles are in the telogen period when hair is shed. For this reason, it is considered normal to shed an average of 100 hair strands a day.

What Can Be Done For Fast Hair Growth?

The human body has a magnificent cycle. While each hair strand has its own growth and shedding speed, it also has a great coordination among themselves. In this way, we avoid being bald for a certain period because they do not grow and shed at the same time. External applications (hair conditioner, care oil, etc.) will not have much effect on this cycle, and the applications in the form of scraping, haircuts will not affect the strengthening, shedding and rapid growth of the hair root.

What is Male Pattern Hair Loss?

The most common cause of hair loss is male pattern hair loss, which occurs as a result of the testosterone hormone making hair follicles hypersensitive. Although it is mostly seen in men, it is also the type seen in women. In this type of hair loss known as Andro genetics, the hair loss occurs from the forehead to the back and the rate of hair loss increases as the age progresses.

Most of the hair loss in men occurs in this way. If the type of spill is male type, the size of the spilled area is checked. If this gap cannot be closed and hair root loss is too much, hair transplantation is recommended.

One of the other most common causes of hair loss is malnutrition. Causes such as B12, iron deficiency, zinc, biotin and folic deficiency make the hair follicle fed through the blood unhealthy and thus weaken the hair strand that cannot be fed from the root. For this reason, shock diet practices, a diet lacking fruit and vegetables, and diets lacking protein play a negative role in hair health. Especially in children with hair loss problems, the child’s blood test, vitamin and mineral checks should be done and the diet should be monitored.

Women Pattern Hair Loss

The most common causes of hair loss in women are thyroid disease, diabetes and iron deficiency anemia. When women apply to the physician with the complaint of hair loss, the necessary examinations are made to find out whether it is male pattern hair loss or female pattern hair loss. It is questioned whether a disease is the cause of the spill, and then blood tests and tests are performed to determine whether there is a vitamin deficiency such as iron, biotin and zinc or a thyroid disease. Considering the results of this, the type of spillage is determined and the appropriate treatment is started.
